Bryson Recycling celebrates 10 Years of WISH NI Health & Safety Awards

Bryson Recycling proudly announces its 10th consecutive win at the prestigious WISH NI Awards, which recognises outstanding achievements in occupational health and safety management. This milestone recognises Bryson Recycling's commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in workplace safety over the past decade.

Bryson Recycling first achieved ISO 45001 accreditation for Occupational Health and Safety Management in 2007. Since then, the company has enhanced its systems, procedures and employee training initiatives. During the past year, their focus has been to redefine the safety culture within the organisation. This involved a comprehensive review of induction and training processes for employees and contractors and an evaluation of current procedures, analysing accident trends and collecting feedback from staff throughout the organisation.

The outcomes of this review identified several areas for enhancement, which have since been implemented to improve the training and induction experience:

Enhanced Induction Programme: Bryson Recycling revamped its induction programme, tailoring it to the specific needs of employees and contractors. Notably, a dedicated two-week onboarding programme was introduced for drivers, overseen by a newly appointed Driver Engagement Manager to ensure comprehensive support throughout the onboarding process.
Integration of Online Learning: Embracing technological advancements, Bryson Recycling integrated a state-of-the-art online learning platform. This facilitates ongoing training, refresher courses and post-incident education.
Regular Incident Review: The company introduced a more structured approach to incident review to enables continuous learning and improvements across all departments.
Topic Trend Toolbox Talks: Monthly toolbox talks were introduced, with topics tailored to address current safety trends within each department.

Early indicators from these initiatives have been overwhelmingly positive.

Commenting on the win, Danielle Shields, Head of SHEQ Improvement at Bryson Recycling said: "As we celebrate a decade of excellence with our 10th consecutive WISH NI Award, we show our commitment to advancing health, safety, and wellbeing standards. This awards validates our efforts and also inspires us to continue innovating and setting new benchmarks in workplace health and safety."

Moving forward, Bryson Recycling plans to build upon its achievements, guided by their commitment to continuous improvement and a vision of creating a safer, more resilient workplace for all.
